Let us ask you some questions:
Do you often feel overwhelmed when new information is presented to you?
Do you typically become frustrated when you are learning something new?
People with anxiety and ADHD sometimes experience the feeling of overwhelm when they are processing information. In this video I am going to share with you a strategy that has been helpful for subscribers of PanicAttackRecovery.com.
We’re a collaboration of former sufferers helping people with panic attacks, stress, anxiety, depression, and ADHD, so they can express their true competencies in life.
As mentioned, people with anxiety and ADHD sometimes experience the feeling of overwhelm when they are processing information.
Overwhelm can occur when you are attempting to review material in a format that is in the wrong modality for you.
By “modality” I am referring to the format which works best for you to process information.
For example, if you are a visual learner then listening to audio books or oral lectures may not be your preference.
I’m not saying you can’t ever use these options.
However, you are likely going to be more comfortable by taking that existing information and converting it into a visual format.
The real key here is to use your dominant modality to process the information.
For example, some people are visual learners and prefer information organized into visual formats like tables or charts. Some of our subscribers reported listening to lectures in classes but afterwards making a chart or “mind map” of the information.
Yet other people prefer information presented in an auditory modality.
The truth is: there are a variety of ways in which people process information.
You need to find yours and then process the information in that format.
Think about how you prefer to review information when you are given a choice.
When you are reviewing something new, break the information into chunks, rather than trying to cover it all at the same time.
Be sure to process the information at the pace you desire. We all have our own tempo.
By learning about your preferred modality and trying the suggestions mentioned here, you can better handle information across a variety of contexts. As you improve your processing of information in your dominant modality, your confidence can increase as well.
