We want to provide 2 questions that ADHD & Anxiety sufferers can ask themselves to help with situations that could otherwise get the best of their emotions.
We are providing this tip because despite all the work that you do with techniques and treatment for ADHD and anxiety, they are not going to be as helpful, unless you have a chance to work on your emotions.
However, before we get to the questions, let us
provide an example that some of you can probably relate to quite well.
Let’s say you are on your way to a very important meeting or appointment. You get cut off in traffic. Naturally this is upsetting, especially if you continue to stew about it. And this may even have an effect on your performance in the meeting or whatever activity you engage in next.
The point of this example is that most days you have goals or planned activities. Still you must make choices throughout the day. But in the run of a day, many of us might spend too much time on things that grab our attention in the moment but have nothing to do with our goals. It’s natural if to stew a little when something ticks you off. However, it is really important to limit the time you spending doing this.
One activity that helps with emotions is asking the following questions:
Is this something I should be focused on now?
Do I have more important things in my life?
It might seem too simple, but we find it helpful to do this when we are worrying or ruminating over something. Ask yourself these questions whenever you catch yourself becoming upset over something.
